Public Affairs Department

Israel's National Frontline for LGBTQ+ Rights

For over 50 years, The Aguda has been the driving force behind LGBTQ+ equality in Israel. As the country's largest LGBTQ+ organization and the coordinator of a coalition of 20+ partner organizations, our Public Affairs Department is where that work becomes law, headlines, and public policy. We work daily in the Knesset, government ministries, and the media, drafting legislation, blocking discriminatory policies, and shaping how Israel sees its LGBTQ+ community.

Advocacy & Legislation

We turn political moments into legal change. We work to change legislation, policy, and public attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ community among decision-makers and the Israeli public, advancing equal rights, defending against setbacks, and combating hate crimes and discrimination through parliamentary, legal, and media channels. As the coordinating body for Israel's Coalition of LGBTQ+ Organizations, we house a joint lobbyist who represents the entire coalition's interests in the Knesset and government ministries, ensuring the community speaks with one strong, unified voice.

Media & Public Voice

We shape the national conversation on LGBTQ+ rights, briefing journalists, placing stories, and responding in real time when the community comes under attack in the press or on social media. From court rulings to hate crime coverage, our team ensures the community's reality reaches the Israeli mainstream, not just its own circles.

Government & Coalition Relations

As the coordinating body for Israel's Coalition of LGBTQ+ Organizations, Our joint lobbyist represent the entire community's interests before policymakers, briefing Knesset members, ministries, and municipal leaders, and working to block hostile organizations' access to government funding and influence.

Local Pride

Each year, The Aguda publishes the Pride Index for Local Authorities, ranking cities and municipalities across Israel on their policies and services for the LGBTQ+ community, from education and welfare to public visibility and cultural support. Presented annually to the President of Israel, the Index is more than a measurement tool, it's a driver of change: it sparks healthy competition between municipalities and gives local leaders a concrete roadmap to improve year over year, turning local government into an active partner in the fight for equality.

The 2025 Pride index will soon be available in english.
